Banff Horseback Riding

The Bow River Ride is a 1 hour horseback ride. Ride along the tranquil Bow River – an area home to wildlife in amongst the thick marshes and grassy meadows and past the natural sulphur hot springs flowing from the Cave & Basin –the birth place of Banff National Park. 

Participants must check-in at least 30 minutes before the scheduled tour time. There will be no refunds for late arrivals. All participants must be at least 8 years of age and weigh less than 230 lbs to horseback ride. All riders must wear closed toe shoes (no sandals or high heels) and long pants is preferable. All participants will be required to sign a waiver and wear a helmet. All minors under 18 years old must have a parent or legal guardian on the ride with them.

The Bow River Ride is a 1 hour horseback ride along the Bow River and past the natural sulphur hot springs flowing from the Cave & Basin – the original historic hot springs. The Bow River Evening Ride is the same as the daytime Bow River Ride however departs later in the day at 5:30pm.

This is a 1 hour ride. Breathe in the pine-spiced mountain air as you approach the Bow Falls. You’ll also pass by the famous Fairmont Banff Springs Golf Course on this ride – one of the most immaculately manicured courses in Canada. Continue along the edge of the Fairmont Banff Springs Golf Course, and cross through the waters once more. A partial climb up Sulphur Mountain brings you through a wooded residential area and back to the corrals. The most unique feature of this trip is crossing the Spray River. On hotter days, your horse may even decide to cool itself off by splashing water onto its belly – it’s an experience unlike anything else.

This ride is an extension of the 1 Hour Bow River Ride, which rides along the tranquil Bow River – an area home to wildlife in amongst the thick marshes and grassy meadows. You will pass by the historic Cave and Basin, the birth place of Banff National Park. The ride then continues with fantastic scenery as you climb up Sulphur Mountain around the Windy Knoll viewpoint before returning to the stables.

Enjoy gazing up at sky-piercing mountaintops, thick alpine forests, rolling hills and jagged rock formations on this ride. Your journey continues through the Cave and Basin – the birthplace of Banff National Park, where you will find bubbling sulphur waters and remarkable rock caverns.While travelling along the Sundance Canyon Trail, keep an eye out for beaver, elk, coyotes and occasionally, bears. Continue your ride around the Windy Knoll as you climb Sulphur Mountain for spectacular views of the Bow Valley, before we follow the Bow River back to Warner Stables.

From snow-capped mountains and sparkling waterfalls to roaring rivers and thick alpine forests, this trip takes you from the bustling Banff town-site to the peaceful wilderness just a few miles away. See the renowned Rimrock Resort Hotel, and then trek down to the valley and lead your horse across the lively Spray River. Water and a light snack will be provided during a short rest break. After a well deserved rest, you’ll cross the Spray River once more and ride along the base of iconic Mount Rundle. Here you’ll enjoy stunning views across the valley and of the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, also known as Canada’s ‘Castle in the Rockies’, before passing by the immaculate fairways of the Fairmont Banff Springs Golf Course. You’ll continue on to roaring Bow Falls to cross the river one last time before heading back.

First, you’ll ride along the Bow River while watching for wildlife and enjoying the spectacular scenery. Midway through the ride, you’ll arrive at “3 Mile” to enjoy genuine Western hospitality and some tasty comfort food including steak cooked to order, baked potatoes, cowboy baked beans and Caesar salad. The BBQ area has been recently updated, offering a clean and inviting space with outdoor seating to enhance your dining experience. But before digging in, work up an appetite with a few Western-style games, like lassoing and horse-shoes.

The ride is perfect for children over 8 years. For little ones (under 8), you can also experience this western adventure by wagon. This adventure is ideal for families, as the horseback riders to meet up with those who have taken the wagon ride at “3 Mile Cabin” to share and enjoy together the cowboy BBQ feast.
