As one of the most visited destinations in the Rocky Mountains, Banff has gained quite a reputation for stunning views and breathtaking adventures. Soaring peaks, incredible wildlife, beautiful nature: welcome to Banff, Alberta.
At Banff Adventures, we’ve spent almost 3 decades welcoming people from all over the world into our home. We proudly offer plenty of things to do in Banff to experience the Canadian Rockies with family and friends, no matter their preferred style of adventure. If you’re more of an adrenaline junkie, into long walks or bike rides, or fantastic views, we’ve written about those here.
Below, we are going to talk about the wildlife-oriented things to do in Banff. For all of our animal lovers, read on!
Evening Wildlife Safari
Fit for all ages, the Evening Wildlife Safari gives families a chance to spot local Canadian wildlife in their natural habitat. Your guide will provide information on any animals you spot, as well as the history of Banff and safe wildlife-watching practices. Keep your eyes peeled, and you might see an elk, wolf, or even a bear!
Wildlife is more active in the dark. This trip has various departures at 5:30 pm, 6:30 pm, and 7:30 pm. While spotting animals is not guaranteed, we see wildlife on 95% of the tours.
Grizzly Bear Tour
The Grizzly Bear Refuge is home to Boo the Bear, where we keep him safe in his 20-acre habitat. Boo was orphaned at only five months old and was given a chance to live a life where he could be taught to survive naturally in a homely environment. In this Banff tour, you’ll get the chance to see Boo as well as learn about grizzly bears and their behaviour.
You’ll get a chance to see Emerald Lake and Takakkaw Falls on this Banff tour, with photo opportunities for each place. Lunch is provided at Canada’s highest restaurant.
Wolfdog Sanctuary
Much like Boo the Bear, many wolfdogs are left abandoned and in need of rehoming, often by people who adopt them without knowledge of what they need—ultimately resulting in surrendering. Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary is home to many rescued pups, some of which you can even get the chance to feed yourself!
Yamnuska is doing its part to spread awareness of the importance of conservation and animal welfare. Learn interesting facts about wolfdogs while taking photos of their fuzzy faces. This tour is available year-round.
Horseback Riding
Whether it is your first time or your 100th time on the back of a horse, the Horseback Riding tour is fit for everyone ages eight and up (max weight 230 lbs). Receive basic instructions followed by 1-4 hours of horseback riding through the mountain trails around Banff.
This Banff tour includes a helmet rental, but please wear closed-toed shoes and long pants. Sandals are not permitted.
