Skiing in the Rockies: Banff Adventure’s Lessons
Ready to hit the slopes this winter? Banff Adventures offers ski lessons and ski equipment rentals! You can choose between private or small group lessons for all ages, including children.
Group Lessons
Never skied before? Don’t worry about it! Get a firm grasp on the basics through hands-on experience in group lessons taught by certified and experienced ski instructors. After a few hours, you’ll be ready to hit the slopes with confidence. Skiing for the first time as an adult can be very scary, but once you gain confidence, it will be the thrill of a lifetime. You’ll never want to unclip your skis!
We recommend inexperienced skiers planning a ski trip book the First Timers package! It includes equipment rentals, ski lessons and your ticket to the Magic Carpet! No need to worry about the gear; all you need to pack is appropriate snow gear: a warm winter jacket, snow pants, gloves and goggles.
Check out our handy guide to determine your ski school ability level.
Private Lessons
The private ski lessons for adults are great because you decide the day’s agenda! More experienced skiers focus on learning new skills or trying new terrains with their pro instructor. For beginners who would rather have a one-on-one experience, Banff Adventures recommends booking private lessons at Mt. Norquay, as they are priced per person.
Up to five people can make up a group for private ski lessons at Sunshine Village and Lake Louise. Those two are priced per group and can accommodate up to 5 people. It is important to note that these groups must be at the same ability level and discipline so no one gets left behind!
Lake Louise Skiing
Located the furthest from town, Lake Louise Ski Resort is a gorgeous skiing destination that is a must-visit this winter season. If you do not plan on driving, don’t worry! Visitors can hop on the free bus service during ski season to travel between Banff and Lake Louise. Out of Banff’s big three skiing destinations, Lake Louise boasts the most green runs, making it ideal for families and beginners! It doesn’t hurt that the location is absolutely breathtaking.
Don’t forget to check out their map to plan your routes and make the most of your time skiing at Lake Louise!
Mount Norquay
Considered the ‘locals’ mountain, Mount Norquay is the closest skiing spot to town. Compared to the other two ski resorts, Mt. Norquay is Banff’s smallest ski resort, with 60 runs to choose from. Beginners, intermediate and expert skiers are all guaranteed a good time shredding some powder!
Although there are fewer green and blue runs, beginners enjoy skiing at Mt. Norquay because the bunny hill is straight off the chair lift, making zipping up and down the mountain a breeze all day.
Plan your visit ahead of time by checking out Mount Norquay’s interactive map that provides information on the available runs and their difficulty level.
Sunshine Village
Skiing at Sunshine Village is always a treat because of the many hills and diverse terrain options across three mountains! Sunshine is recognized as a world-renowned skiing destination.
Look for the chair lifts with orange covers– they are the Teepee Town LX, Canada’s first and only heated chair lift. Between heated chair lifts, three mountains, and more than 3,500 acres to explore, skiers and snowboarders alike are spoiled at Sunshine Village.
It’s best to consult the map and plan ahead of time for Sunshine so you know exactly where you want to ski!
