What is Whitewater Rafting?
When river water moves fast over rocks and other natural obstacles, it becomes aerated. This water moves quickly, creating small waves as it moves downstream. The result? Fast-moving, turbulent white water. Rafting this water makes for a thrilling experience, allowing adventure enthusiasts to navigate surging rivers and foaming rapids!
Rapids are classified by class and increase in intensity with each level. All of our adventures range from classes 1-4; you won’t find any class 5 or 6 rapids here!
Here’s our quick guide to each class:
Class 1: The perfect starting point for beginners, with little maneuvering. These currents are calm and slow-moving, without many waves, rocks, or other obstacles.
Class 2: Rapids are slightly faster-moving and increase in intensity. Obstacles become more frequent and require basic maneuvering.
Class 3: The intensity ramps up considerably, with fast-moving water, moderate waves, and more frequent drops. Frequent maneuvering becomes more necessary to traverse obstacles and elevation changes.
Class 4: Large, fast-moving rapids and powerful currents. Rafters should expect these river sections to feature consistent drops, frequent obstacles, and choppy waters as you quickly move downstream.
