Scale the Mountainside on the Iron Road
Looking for a one-of-a-kind experience that gets you up close to the mountains? Via Ferrata tours are a truly unique experience that takes you along man-made roadways in an activity that’s an exhilarating blend of hiking, bouldering and rock climbing. Banff Adventure’s Via Ferrata (Italian for Iron Road) allows you to traverse the side of Mt. Norquay with the help of a set course and guides. Steel cables are affixed to the mountain face, and adventurers are secured to the line for added security throughout their experience. Frequently asked questions about our Via Ferrata tours include:
How Accessible Are Via Ferrata Tours?
Via Ferrata tours are an active excursion, meaning that we recommend that participants are in relatively good fitness and health and have comfort being at high elevations.
What Equipment is Provided?
We’ll hook you up with all the safety and necessary gear to complete your adventure, but we strongly advise wearing appropriate hiking footwear. You are also welcome to bring small snacks or a small bagged lunch as well as water to stay fuelled and hydrated.
What Do I Wear?
As with all active activities in the Banff region, having the proper dress is essential for safety and enjoyment. We recommend wearing sturdy hiking boots, as well as breathable athletic clothing that will give you a full range of motion. Bear in mind that weather in the mountains can change rapidly, so keeping a thin rain jacket in your pack is always a good idea, as is bringing sunscreen!
