Horsing Around

Each activity has its own meeting location. Transport is not included and you must meet at activity site. 

Kicking Horse Rafting: 2936 Kicking Horse Road, Golden, BC. (Please take Beaverfoot Road exit, off Hwy #1). This is a 1 hr 15 min drive from Banff and transport is not available.

Bow River Horseback Ride: Warner Stables, 100 Sundance Rd, Banff

No, you can do the activities over separate days. If you do wish to do everything on one day, please allow enough time between activities. There can be no reschedules/refunds if you get delayed between activities. 

For this package, guests must be at least 12 years or over and weigh between 90 - 230lbs. As part of the check-in process, guests may be required to confirm their current weight on a scale and provide proof of the child’s age. In the event that these requirements are not met, the booking will be forfeited without a refund.

For the horseback ride, children will not be paired with an adult – they must ride their own horse. For safety purposes helmets are mandatory to be worn by all riders. If guests wear a headdress, there is a safe space provided to change into the helmet.  Riders must wear sturdy closed toed shoes enclosed to the ankle – no open toe shoes or shoes with big heels.

No, you do not for both Horseback riding and Rafting. Most of our guests are first time rafters and our trips, equipment and briefings are designed to put the novice rafter at ease. Our guides will provide a thorough safety talk before getting into the water.

The Horseback rides are perfect for beginners and go at a gentle pace. Your guides will give you instruction on the day. 

For the Rafting, we ask that you wear your bathing suit underneath your clothes when you arrive at our base, and bring a towel and a bag for your personal belongings and a change of underwear for after your trip!  Hydra River Guides provides all of the gear necessary for your raft trip including wetsuits, neoprene booties, fleece sweaters, spray jackets, life jackets and helmets. 

For the Horseback ride, you must wear sturdy closed toe shoes and long pants. We will provide a helmet which is mandatory to wear. You are not able to wear a backpack on the ride. 

As rafting is an adventurous activity, there is a chance you may fall in. Our guides do everything they can to look out for your safety and it’s important to listen to everything they say. There will be various points throughout the trip when they tell you to hold on or get down, and it’s necessary to follow their instructions. We prefer our guests to have basic swimming ability. 

Horseback rides are subject to a 24 hour cancellation policy. Rides are 100% refundable if cancelled outside of 24 hours before scheduled tour time.

Kicking Horse Classic Rafting is subject to a 48 hour cancellation policy. No refunds provided if cancelled within 48 hours. No refunds provided for guests that do not make their booked tour time.
