Walk on a Glacier!
Columbia Icefield Adventure
Adventure Details
Experience the power of glaciers up-close on the most unique attraction in the Canadian Rockies, the Columbia Icefield Adventure. Travel on a massive Ice Explorer onto an ancient glacier then stand in the sky at the Columbia Icefield Skywalk.
The Columbia Icefield Adventure includes the Ice Explorer Tour on the Athabasca Glacier and admission to the Skywalk.
Largest of all icefields in the Canadian Rockies, the Columbia Icefield is guarded by 11 of the Rockies' 22 highest peaks. The glacier straddles the Continental Divide, two provinces and two national parks, feeds three of Canada's largest rivers and eventually flows out into three oceans. The ice is 365 metres (1,200 feet) thick - about the height of the Empire State Building. It is a once in a lifetime experience. You will travel onto the glacier in a specially designed "Ice Explorer" that will take you directly onto a 10,000 year old sheet of ice.
Then, experience waterfalls, wildlife, fossils and more on an exciting cliff-edge walkway that leads to a platform where glass is all that separates you from a 918 foot drop. Welcome to Glacier Skywalk in the heart of the Canadian Rockies! You can select to just to the Glacier Skywalk (without the Ice explorer) but we recommend doing both activitites for the full experience.
For those that require transport from Banff, select the Columbia Icefield Discovery Tour from Banff. This includes the Columbia Icefield Adventure (ice explorer + skywalk) and lunch plus highlights along the way!
